Camaro Celebration at the 2012 CHGP
8. February, 2012

Chevrolet Camaro has a long racing pedigree. Among others Danish former F1 driver Tom Belsø mastered the Camaro, here seen ahead of Erik Høyer at the Danish Grand Prix in 1974.
Although not quite a milestone, 45 years is still something to celebrate. Especially when it is a pony car, sometimes classified as a muscle car: The Chevrolet Camaro.
Launched in September 1966 by General Motors the Chevrolet Camaro was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang as an attractive, compact and affordable alternative . Sharing platform and major components with the Pontiac Firebird it did not take long time before the new pony car entered the motor sport stage. In Denmark, local icons such as Jac Nellemann and former F1 driver Tom Belsø have tamed the Camaro beast.

The racing version of the Camaro will also be racing at at Super Pole competition at 2012 CHGP 2012.
As part of the Camaro 45 years festivities, CHGP counts to the Scandinavian Camaro 2012 Championship. Among the 15 drivers strong class Danish Le Mans winners Jan Magnussen and Casper Elgaard are in a league of their own. Both race days the 445 hp strong cars will run show races and a Super Pole race where the drivers one at a time set the best lap times. Sure it will be seconds or rather more likely tens and hundreds that mark the winner between the tight walls of the Copenhagen track.
