With a victory in the season’s final World Cup division in Bahrain, the two Danish Aston Martin pilots won the world title in the FIA World Endurance GT Championship.

They came. They saw. They won!

In the last World Cup division, Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim literally left competitors in the dust of the desert, as the duo crossed the finish line and won the ninth division in the World Series for sports cars.

The victory was the team’s second in the current season and meant not only that the Danish racing drivers secured a win in the individual world championship, but also that their team Young Driver AMR, won the world title in the team championship.

The race in Bahrain was attended by CHGP Ambassador Tom Kristensen, who was present at the event, which was also Audi’s Farewell in the LMP1 class. The nine-time Le Mans winner made a quick visit to the Aston Martin garage to congratulate the new world champions after an impressive season performance. Throughout the year, Aston Martin has fought and defeated major motorsport brands like Ford, Ferrari and Porsche, and the Danish Aston Martin team has been on the podium a total of six times out of nine races.

But it was not just Tom Kristensen, who had the opportunity to pay tribute to Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim. From CHGP Promoter Jac Nellemann and Jens Peter Lange were present to show their support and cheer the duo on to victory.

And the prestigious world title and the two Danish racer stars must of course be celebrated in connection with Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix 2017. Both Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim have on several occasions visited the Copenhagen street race and there will certainly be extra attention around the newly crowned world champions, when the event takes place on August 5th and 6th 2017.

For this purpose the CHGP organization has also started working on bringing the winning car to Copenhagen, so that guests and spectators can study and experience the beautiful Aston Martin race car up close. During the CHGP weekend, the brand’s world titles will also be honored by an exclusive Aston Martin show with several special Aston Martin models.
