Over the years, the charity event ”Race for Riget” has become a legend in Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix. For one hour on both Saturday and Sunday of the race weekend, spectators have the opportunity to purchase a ride in the passenger seat of one of the extravagant sports- and racecars driven by famous race drivers.
All funds collected during “Race for Riget” are donated 100% to charity and in 2017, a new record of DKK 600.000 was set. This brings the total amount donated to charity since 2010 to nearly 3 million DKK. Leader of the Children and Youth Program at Rigshospitalet and receiver of the record-breaking amount collected in 2017, Charlotte Blix, is very pleased with the enormous amount, as it makes a big difference to the Program.
Charlotte Blix and her colleagues stressed this importance at an event earlier this week at Rigshospitalet where 80 people from various organizations gathered. Volunteer hospital clowns and voluntary young people who have taken the initiative to create the Youth Café “HR Berg”, where sick young people aged between 14 and 24 years can meet and enjoy some time off from a tough everyday life, were in the company of horsemen from the Royal Stables, police officials, Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix, Porsche Club Denmark, volunteers from “Heksen Børne- og Dukketeater (Children’s puppet theater group) and “Den Røde Drage” (The Red Dragon) from DanChurchSocial. Each and every one of them are initiatives, attempting to create a space for sick children and youngsters where togetherness and activities help both the children and their parents get through the rough times.
The funds donated by Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix and “Race for Riget” help support the relief work and make it possible for the Children and Youth Program to purchase toys, teddybears, games and computers as well as to go on sightseeing trips to Copenhagen and the Tivoli Gardens. This makes a major, positive difference to the hospitalized children and youngsters.
The organization behind Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix would like to humbly THANK each and every one who has been involved in “Race for Riget” – from the volunteers who guide the guests in and out of the cars to the enthusiasts who loyally make their beautiful and expensive cars available to the event. CHGP would also like to thank all Danish and foreign car importers, who help provide the latest supersportscars as well as all the famous race drivers, who donate their time and presence – including “Race for Riget” ambassador, Jan Magnussen, who continues to bring passion and backup, ensuring the continued success of the event. No one is indispensable – and everyone taking part in “Race for Riget” is part of the difference created by the annual donation to the Children and Youth Program at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen General Hospital.
